Chapter Eighteen – Smoke And Mirrors
August 19, 2009 by speckypeck
Under interrogation.

Placed in a cold sterile room I sit opposite Detective Cosimo with a uniformed officer in attendance. Detective Cosimo wastes no time in getting to the point. He asks me what I know about Nick Alto. So that’s what this is all about.
I tell the detective I had met Nick Alto on a number of occasions. I admit our relationship was less than friendly.

Detective Cosimo suggests the relationship was more than “less friendly”, even perhaps hostile contempt.

I tell the detective sure, I hated Nick. He was obnoxious and conceited. There were probably lots of people who felt this way about him judging by the article in the paper. Detective Cosimo points out that I took note of the article in the paper.
For goodness sake! Of course I took note of the article. It was a murder. A murder that took place right next door to my own home!
Yes, says Detective Cosimo – Yes it was; right next door.

Detective Cosimo asks me if I had ever conducted business with Nick Alto. So this is the thread they hope to stitch me up with? I wonder where that snippet of information may have come from. Jared Frio perhaps.

With a sigh I tell the detective that there had been a business plan that had fell through. I ended up losing out on the deal and there wasn’t much I could do about it. End of story.
Detective Cosimo says that maybe I did do something about it. That maybe losing out on a business deal that was worth simoleons had driven me to commit murderous revenge.
I have grown tired of these childish questions and theories.

I erupt in frustration. Don’t waste your time detective! I’m not a forensic scientist, but I am sure that tests were conducted to determine the time of Nick’s death. The fact is that I was working late the night Nick Alto was murdered and there are witnesses and work records to prove it. After work I went straight home. My bet is that you will find I was in the laboratory.
As for your revenge theories, all you have is coincidence and speculation that you are trying unjustly to pin on me. The truth is – and you must already know this – is that there were many people who despised Nick Alto as I did!
Now unless I am under arrest or you have some evidence of substance to back your fantastical notions I believe I am free to go.
I am told I am free to go – for now. Ridiculous.

To be continued…

Ooh nice tension. I love the detail in the interrogation room.
Wow. Quite a lot of work went into setting that up. It was a wonderfully written scene. I’m excited to find out where it all leads!
Hmm…who is the lady? I’ll have to look back through your chapters to see if she’s shown up before…
Thanks for the comments. I’m pleased with the way the interrogation room turned out. It was good that the big mirror was the same size as the big window to create the illusion of a one way mirror. Just like in the movies
I’m hoping to wind the tension further.
I’m hoping she is familiar…
Very good chapter! Your pictures are always so perfect for the story:D
Thanks. The number of screenshots I take during gameplay is HUGE.
Love it!
Thanks. The sh;t is about to hit the fan in my legacy too I think.
Wow, amazing interrogation room.
and way to stand up for your rights Jack!
dude, your legacy is hardcore. veeery compelling. I’m anxious to read more . : O
Thanks. I’m glad you like it. The biggest challenge at the moment is finding time to play
Wow, is Jack in trouble or what? Because, you know he is edging more toward suspect than a mere ‘person of interest’ in their eyes. Yikes, Jack, watch your back!
And I, too, am impressed with your interrogation room! Love your photos, as always. You’ve got quite the eye with a camera.
Well done!
Wow!!
The photographs throughout your blog are amazing!
It’s Holly Alto
Hey Y. Good guess, but it’s not her. It is someone who has appeared previously in the chapters. Perhaps she is not as obvious as I thought she might be
I know that for some people taking screenshots while they play is a hindrance but I really enjoy trying to catch a cool looking image. Thanks for your comment
Fantastic, absolutely fantastic! I’ve never been this interested in a legacy before, it was definitely a page turner. I’ve added a link to you so I can keep up whenever you put up something new (: great work!
Thanks. The hardest thing at the moment is getting time to play so I can add to the story.
I love the setup! Nice work, cant wait to read more =)
She looks like the robber girl…The one who killed Nick Alto…Love the story Line.
Yeah! Amazing chapter of an amazing legacy! Keep on writing!
Good spotting. Interesting that you say she’s the one who killed Nick Alto.
Thanks for your comment. It’s getting harder and harder to get time to play lately
Specky, I hope you are still out there. We have been left hanging with an unsolved murder….and some darn good writing. Hope you find time to share with us again. – Satbir
